1 Turn audio down or off
If audio isn't needed, turn it off (1a).

Or, at least turn down Sample rate (1b), Sample size (1c), and select Mono (1d).

If you're creating an instructional video, talk fast and work quickly.
6 Convert the file format
After capture, CaptureWiz compresses your movie using the codec "Microsoft Video 1, FOURCC = CRAM". By using this standard format, your video will play on most computers and players.

To compress the movie even further, you can use Windows Movie Maker, which comes free with Windows. As shown in the table at right, it can be very effective. It converts your AVI file to Windows Media Video format (WMV). Click here for details.

An alternative AVI format converter is the free, open source, program  VirtualDub, which produces equivalent compression using the widely available Intel Indeo 5.10 codec.
